Over the Hill
Create an "over-the-hill" card that pokes fun at the 50-year-old's age. Use the computer or your own creative skills. Design a tombstone on the front of the card. Write inside of the tombstone "Here Lies Everything You Can No Longer Do." On the inside of the card list things that someone very old may not be able to do. For example, you may want to write "Driving your own car," "Keeping your real teeth," "Bending down without moaning," "Staying out late" or "Jogging." List as many funny, silly or inappropriate things that you can imagine. You may want to wrap a fake, inflatable walker as a gag gift.
50 and Fabulous
Design a girlie "50 and fabulous" card for a women who's turning 50. Write "50 and Fabulous" on the cover in clear glue, then pour small white pearls over the glue. When the glue has dried, turn the card upside-down to remove the excess pearls. Add ribbon or sparkles to the outside of the card. On the inside of the card, write all of the funny things that make 50 fabulous. For example, you may want to say "Botox and facelifts are perfectly acceptable at 50," "You're officially a cougar," "50 is the new 30," or "You're still technically younger than Barbie." For a gift, consider giving the birthday girl a manicure, pedicure and/or massage gift token.
Ageing Through the Decades
Make an "ageing through the decades" card for a close family member or friend. Obtain as many pictures of the birthday person that you can, starting with infancy. Upload and save the pictures onto your computer using a scanner (or simply upload pictures that have been posted to Facebook or MySpace). Also download different historic photos from the Internet. For example, you may want to download a picture of Noah's Arc, dinosaurs and cavemen, the Roman Empire, the French Revolution, the American Revolution, the signing of the Declaration of Independence and other pictures from history. Use your photo software, such as Photo Shop, iPhoto, Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa, to insert the pictures of the birthday person into each historic picture. Add captions like "Here you are in 1776 signing the Declaration of Independence with your good buddy Thomas Jefferson!" You can make the card into a book, depicting one historic event per page.
