Rare & Unique Gifts for Men
Personalise gifts with your recipient in mind. (watercolour painting image by Pontus Edenberg from Fotolia.com)

It can seem impossible to purchase a gift that is unique and rare from a local store. This is especially true for a man who seems to own almost everything. A unique gift will be meaningful to him and may leave room to personalise it to him specifically. Since rare items are of a limited quantity, begin your search early, well before the gift-giving event approaches.

Go to a concert or book signing and have a meet-and-greet with his favourite artist or author. Have the person sign a T-shirt, CD or book, and present it to him as a special gift. Purchase a ticket for him and have him come along with you if time allows. Have items available for the author or musician to sign that you can present to him right away. If possible, have the artist or author write a note directed toward the recipient. Alternatively, search online auction websites to obtain merchandise that has a signature.

Sports Memorabilia

Pick out sports memorabilia for the avid sports fan as a unique gift that he can cherish for years to come. Consider memorabilia items that celebrate a championship or a winning streak. Teams may issue championship plaques, replicas of championship rings, jerseys and other memorabilia that often sells out before the next season begins, making the items rare to own. Hang the memorabilia in a frame or glass box to highlight its importance.

Original Artwork

Visit art galleries around your town to view original artwork from local painters. Find a painting that suits his personality and purchase it for him. Check for the painter's autograph on the work to confirm that the painting is original and rare. Distinguish a replica or a reprint of an original work by looking for a stamp or other marking on the back of the canvas.

Monograms and Inscriptions

Make a common gift, such as a bathrobe, pair of slippers or jewellery item, into a unique present with a monogram or engraved inscription. Purchase the item and have the store add the recipient's first name, last name or initials. Alternatively, buy the supplies and a monogram machine and add these details yourself. If you have an item inscribed, choose a special message that is meaningful to him to make the gift one of a kind and intentionally directed toward the recipient.
