To appreciate the appearance of a well-manicured lawn at home, you have to cut the grass. Over time, your mower's parts may become worn or defective from use. For a Yard-Man mower, the Yard-Man by MTD Company recommends that, "Genuine Yard-Man replacement parts play an important part in keeping your lawn looking great." Replace old mower parts to keep your Yard-Man mower working at its peak performance.
The Yardman Mower Handle
The lower handle connects to the rear of the deck at its lower end, and then connects to the upper handle at its upper end with bolt carriages and star knobs. The star knobs make it easy to fold the handle down for storage. Other parts found on the handle assembly include the rope guide that houses the handle for the pull string, the blade control that controls the cutting blade and the drive control that propels the mower so that you do not have to overexert yourself as you push it.
The Parts of the Deck
The deck is the centre of the Lawn-Man lawnmower. The front and rear wheels connect to their bracket assemblies through the deck. The engine rests on top of the deck. The handle connects to the rear of the deck and all of the lawnmowers attachments, such as the grass bag and the side discharge chute, are connected to the deck.
The engine sits on top of the deck, or body, of the lawnmower and propels the cutting blade to cut the grass once it is fuelled and the engine is started. Engine parts on a Yard-Man mower include the muffler assembly, gasket and shield, the carburettor assembly, gasket and insulator, the recoil starter assembly and starter pulley, ignition coil assembly, fuel and air filters. Also included are a spark plug and the bolts, washers, nuts and screws that connect the engine parts together.
The Cutting Blade
The blade assembly -- the blade, blade adaptor and blade bell support -- connects to the engine through the underside of the deck. As the main part that cuts through the grass, the blade becomes dull or damaged from use in a matter of time. While sharpening the blade will extend its use, if it becomes bent you must replace it.
More Parts and Accessories
The rear mulch plug directs grass clippings to fall to the ground instead of collecting in the grass bag once the rear door is closed. The side discharge chute spreads the grass clippings across the yard from the side of the mower. The trailing shield blocks grass clippings from flying out from beneath the rear of the lawnmower as the blade cuts through the grass. Screws, bolts, washers and nuts are the most abundant group of parts since they secure all of the lawnmower parts in place and together.
