Give away small toy trains as party favours. (Toy train image by jeremyhowell from

Kids attending parties usually come home with a couple of party favours as a thank you gift from their host for coming to the party. If your child is having a train-themed party, give out favours that are train related, such as small toy trains, items that a train conductor uses on the job and even novelty train caps. Organise train-themed crafts and send the kids home with train party favours they made themselves.

Train Conductor Favors

Give each child a train conductor's hat and train whistle. Give these items to the children early in the party so they can use them for party games, such as "Conductor Says" (instead of "Simon Says") or "Follow the Conductor" (instead of "Follow the Leader"). Mark the favours with the kids' names using a black permanent marker or set them aside with a slip of paper on top with their names on them.

Toy Train Favors

Purchase three or four small toy trains for each child. Train cars that hook together are often more difficult for kids to put together. Alternatively, train cars with a magnetic front and back are usually easier to play with.

Train Crafts

Plan crafts that the kids can take home as favours. For example, purchase plain wooden trains for the kids to paint at the party. Set out a couple of empty juice boxes for each child and instruct the kids to cover them in construction paper and colour or paint them. Poke a hole on either end of each box and hook them together with craft glue and pipe cleaners.

More Favor Ideas

Give each child two tickets to a local train museum. Give each a book or video about trains or featuring Thomas the Tank Engine. Give them each a train colouring book and a small box of crayons. If you're on a tight budget, check the dollar stores for train-themed favours.

Creative Favor Game

Rather than just handing out favours, have the kids play a game to retrieve them. Draw a map with train tracks that connect different locations in and around your home. Instruct the kids to follow the tracks as marked on the map to find various favours with which to fill up their "loot" bags.
