Hippie party decoration ideas
Host a hippie-themed party with cool decorations. (those Hippies image by Fraser Cambridge from Fotolia.com)

Throw a laid-back party with a hippie theme. There are all kinds of funky ways to decorate for this party; just think about all the things that were popular with hippies, such as tie dye, fringe and incense. Go all out and have your guests thinking they are stepping back into the 1960s.

Beads

Find a bead curtain to hang over the entrance to the party. These are available at most party stores, but you might even find some in a thrift store. Use beads in other areas, too. Hang them from lamps or light fixtures, and place strings of beads around the food on the buffet table.

Tie Dye

Use tie-dyed fabric for tablecloths and napkins. If you really want to transform a space, hang tie-dyed fabric all over the walls for a psychedelic look. If you want, purchase white T-shirts and have a tie-dye station where guests can make a party favour to take home with them.

Peace Sign

Peace signs were big for hippies. Use different coloured peace-sign wine charms so that people can keep their glasses separate. Choose other items that feature peace signs, such as plates or wall hangings. You can even frost sugar cookies with the emblem, to turn them into edible peace signs.

Atmosphere

Get the proper hippie atmosphere going. Find some lava lamps and place them throughout the party area. Don't forget about the incense--burn it in several locations to give the party space a distinctive smell. Another popular device in that era was a black light. If you want, turn one on during the party.
