Glass bottles, drinking glasses and plates, as well as other glass items, don't have to be discarded if they have accidentally been broken. In fact, broken and crushed glass can be used to create murals, pictures and other decorative objects. Crushed glass is available at arts and crafts stores, or you can make your own using broken glass and an electric sink food waste disposer. Resembling stained glass, your finished product is sure to capture attention and delight.

Mosaic Art

Trace a picture on to a piece of cardboard using a black magic marker, and separate the picture into numerous sections. Sort the various coloured glass you'll be using into a small bowl, and set aside until you're ready to begin applying the glass to the cardboard. Select the section of your traced design you'll be filling in first with glass. Apply a thin coat of jeweller's glue. Sprinkle the coloured glass you've chosen for that section carefully on to the area. Wait three minutes, and repeat the process until you have filled in all of the outlined areas with glass. Let it dry for two hours before tilting to display.

Crushed Stained Glass

Similar to creating mosaic art, crushed stained glass uses glass or Plexiglas rather than cardboard as a backing. When placed in a window, the sun will shine through as it catches the reflections of the crushed granules. Follow the same process as the moscaic art in Section 1, but glue the crushed glass on to a sheet of glass.

Bottle Art

Find a decorative bottle or vase. If the bottle or vase has a narrow neck, use a funnel to sift the crushed glass through the neck. Fill the bottle or vase by layering different colours of crushed glass. Artfully vary the layer size of the crushed glass as you place it into the bottle. Set the filled bottle in a window or near a light.

Crushed Glass Candle

Add some sparkle to a plain candle with crushed glass. Begin by selecting the colour of crushed glass you plan to use. In this project, you'll want the glass to be of the finest granules. Spread the glass granules on a piece of cellophane. Using paraffin wax that has been melted, spread it lightly around the candle. Wrap the candle in the cellophane. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Unwrap the candle from the cellophane. The crushed glass with adhere to the outside of the candle.

Trace the image you'd like on to the candle. Select and separate the colours of crushed glass you are planning to use. Apply paraffin wax lightly to one section you have traced. Carefully apply glass using a funnel. Cover the area with cellophane. Let sit for 5 minutes, and then remove the cellophane. Repeat until all of the desired areas are covered in glass.
