With the 2011 "Captain America" film release, kids are discovering Marvel's patriotic superhero. Brush up on your familiarity with the hero by reading a few comic books or watching the 1990 film. Throw a Captain America-themed bash that will entertain children of all ages by incorporating the theme into all the details, from invitations to decor, activities to refreshments.
Games and Activities
A Captain America theme will offer your guests a range of active games. If your venue and weather permit, hold festivities outdoors. Since Captain America can run a mile a minute, let your guests run one-minute races, seeing how far they can get. For a craft project, have guests create their own disc-shaped shields. Use heavy tagboard or construction paper and aluminium foil. Finally, put the guests through the ropes with a Captain America-themed obstacle course. If you hold the party indoors, remove any breakable items from the obstacle course room. Set out chairs, tables and ottomans and designate a path involving leaps, spins and crawls. To broaden the theme a bit, let children come dressed as all members of the Justice League, and enlist their help in a scavenger hunt activity aimed to rescue the missing Captain America.
As soon as the guests arrive, initiate them into the party by serving up shots of Super Soldier Serum and Vita Ray. For the serum, use a brightly coloured sports drink, fruit juice or soda. Serve the serum, straight-faced, from a tray of sample-size plastic cups. For an added touch, replace the labels on sports drink bottles with a "Super Soldier Serum" logo of your own design, and hand out a full bottle to each guest. For the Vita Ray, soberly hand each child a paper cup with one chewable multivitamin tablet or one small candy, such as a Jujube or a Good & Plenty. For the main meal, incorporate the patriotic theme with a cookout of kid-pleasing hot dogs and hamburgers.
Invitations and Decorations
For invitations and decorations, you can easily buy ready-made items along the superhero theme or modify patriotic gear designed for Fourth of July parties. For a more creative twist, design your own invitations based on Captain America's mask. Buy inexpensive paper masks and colour them blue with a capital "A" on the forehead. On the inside of the masks, write all the details of the party. Have the guests wear their masks to the party. For the decor, use red, white and blue streamers and any Fourth of July-themed decorations you find that continue the colour theme.
