According to the Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance, Christianity is the largest religion in the world, practiced by more than two billion people. Some Christians choose to celebrate their religion with Christian costume parties. Preparing for a Christian costume party involves choosing a costume, sending invitations, decorating, deciding on party favors and table arrangements that all have a Christian theme.
Costumes
Dress as a favorite saint. Research saints and choose one who wears recognizable clothing. For instance, a St. Patrick costume could include a green robe, a staff, gray hair and beard, and snakes. Another example is St. Joan of Arc wearing battle armor and carrying a 15th-century sword. Or you could create a costume based on the uniforms of modern-day Christian clergy, such as a nun, bishop, cardinal or minister. Another option is to dress up as a character from the Bible.
Invitations
Christian costume party invitations can include a Christian prayer and an image of Jesus on the front of the card with the party information on the inside. Mention that it is a costume party and all guests should wear a Christian-related costume. The invitations could also be in the shape of a Christian cross with the party information written on the crossbars. Include a prayer with the invitation wishing the blessings of Jesus upon all the guests.
Decorations
Christian costume party decorations could include pictures of saints pasted to the party tablecloth, Christian crosses displayed in the room, prayer cards at each table setting, a balloon bouquet in the shape of a cross and an angel garlands strung around the room.
Party Favors
Give patron saint medals to each guest as party favors for a Christian costume party. Crosses on a necklace or wall hangings are also appropriate Christian party favors. A prayer card for each guest offering blessings for their families is another thoughtful Christian favor. A guardian angel pin is appropriate for both men and women, offering them protection as they go about their daily lives.
Table Centerpiece
The table centerpiece is the first thing guests notice when they enter the party room. A cake decorated in the shape of a cross or a flat cake with the figures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph on the top are appropriate Christian centerpieces. Another Christian costume party centerpiece could be a statue of the Blessed Virgin with flowers arranged around her and a flower wreath on her head.
