Celebrating your baby's first birthday is an exciting time. Choosing a theme for your baby's birthday party based on a characters she loves, like Winnie the Pooh, will make it extra special. Use your theme in as many of the party details as you can, including the invitations.

Shapes

Make your own invitations using card stock, scrapbooking supplies and stencils. Use plastic pre-cut stencils to draw Winnie the Pooh, or trace his images from pictures in colouring books. Make colour copies and cut them out to paste onto the card stock. If you want to personalise the invitations, colour the images.

Use the number "1" in the invitation design, maybe with Winnie the Pooh holding onto a balloon with a "1" or "Happy 1st Birthday" on it. Cut the invitations in the shape of a honeypot to keep with your Pooh theme.

Any of the Pooh characters -- Eeyore, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo or Owl -- can also be added to your design. For example, consider using a group picture of all the characters in front of Pooh's "Funny Hunny Tree" with a "Happy 1st Birthday" balloon. Write the details for the party on the inside of the invitations.

Embellishments

Add embellishments to the invitations to make them three-dimensional. For example, cut out little T-shirt shapes from red felt or cotton fabric to glue to the card stock as Pooh's shirt. Tint some regular white glue with yellow food colouring and drip it around the top of a honeypot image to dry like gooey honey. Cut ovals out of real balloons, glue them onto the balloon shapes and draw the number "1" on the latex if Pooh is holding balloons.

Wording

Use Pooh-friendly words and quotes on the invitations. For example, "Join us in the Hundred Acre Woods for Joseph's 1st birthday" or "Come to Pooh's corner" followed by the party address. Another idea is to make up your own poem. For example:

"Pooh invites you over for some fun

Because little Joseph is turning one!"

Use one of your favourite Pooh quotes, such as "If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you," by Pooh.

Request guests wear something Winnie the Pooh related, such as red T-shirts like Pooh.
