Volunteer vacations allow individuals to travel worldwide on expeditions ranging from climate change research, community development and revitalisation, trail building and maintenance, and more. Individuals interested in Arctic volunteer travel may consider organisations such as Earthwatch, Volunteers for Peace, Wilderness Volunteers and Great Baikal Trail.

Earthwatch engages volunteers in scientific study trips worldwide. The group's Climate Change at the Arctic Edge trip lasts 11 days and in 2010 cost £1,982. On this volunteer vacation, individuals travel to Churchill, MB, Canada to study changes affecting the gases contained in the Arctic ecosystem. Volunteers collect soil samples and other data to study carbon levels, evaluate plant growth patterns and study ice formations. Travellers stay in dormitories and eat meals provided by Earthwatch.
