List of Environmental Charities

With the threats of global warming and pollution looming, a clean planet has become a top priority for many people. While it may seem hard to try and handle environmental issues as an individual, one way that you can help is to contribute to environmental charities. These environmental organisations take donations and dedicate their time and energy to various environmental issues. These issues vary from topics such as rainforest conservation, sustainable markets and conserving ecosystems.

Nature Conservancy

Founded in 1951, the Nature Conservancy devotes its efforts to protecting various ecosystems around the globe. This organisation works in areas such as coral reefs in Australia to the deserts of Africa. Their website states that with the contributions of supporters, they have managed to protect more than 119 million acres of land and 5,000 miles of rivers around the world since being founded. The Nature Conservancy is an accredited charity with the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance. In addition, this organisation received an A-minus from the American Institute of Philanthropy, marking it as a top-rated charity.

Arbor Day Foundation

The first Arbor Day within the United States, a celebration of tree conservation, was held in 1872. One hundred years later, the Arbor Day Foundation was founded. This organisation's goal is to protect and preserve America's forest systems. In addition, the foundation uses charitable contributions to rebuild forests by planting trees around the country that have been cut down due to deforestation, pollution and other natural damage. The Arbor Day Foundation also seeks to preserve rainforests around the world.

Greenpeace Fund

Greenpeace, founded in 1971, seeks to revitalise the planet through a series of non-violent confrontations. This organisation aims to protect ecosystems, cut down on pollution and global warming and raise public awareness of environmental issues. Greenpeace's mission is a global one, and the organisation has offices in more than 30 countries. The goal of Greenpeace is to ensure that the world becomes an environmentally safe place.

World Resources Institute

Launched in 1982, World Resources Institute is an organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life for people worldwide. This organisation aims to challenge environmental issues and pursue means of correcting global issues. WRI works on issues such as climate protection, ecosystem renewal and revitalising sustainable markets. The organisation works in areas such as India and China, seeking to create eco-friendly means of marketing and reducing pollution worldwide.
