List of careers for right brain dominant people

Updated April 17, 2017

Contrariwise to the left brain, which controls language and logical thinking, the right brain is the source of creativity, controlling visual aspects of life and intuition. People who are right-brained dominant typically enjoy arts, literature and outdoor activities as opposed to science, mathematics and indoor activities. These characteristics provide numerous job opportunities for right-brained individuals. Dominance does not mean absolute. Therefore, regardless of dominance, each individual will have characteristics from both sides of the brain.

Interior Designer

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, interior designers work with how different colours, textures, furniture, lighting, and space work together to meet the needs of a building's occupants. Because right-brained people enjoy working visually as opposed to textually, a hands-on job such as interior designing provides a great career choice for right-brained individuals. Designing and choosing interior decor will appeal to many aspects of the visually inclined, right-brained person. Many interior designers work with a small firm or on a freelance basis.

Retail Manager

People who have a dominant right brain enjoy working with people rather than alone. This characteristic makes a job in retail a great choice for a right-brained person. Retail jobs allow the individual to work around a large number of people all the time. Right-brained people have the ability to work in a busy environment. Often, background noise does not disturb the work process of a right-brained individual. The ability to focus in the midst of chaos allows a plethora of job opportunities for the right-brained person.

Recreation Director

Being inside for too long will drive a right-brained individual crazy. Therefore, a career that has the possibility of combining the love for the outdoors with a career provides an option for a right-brained person. A career in recreation directing would provide the right-brained person the active lifestyle he would enjoy. It would also allow the person to work around a large group of people, another characteristic of a right-brained person.

Counselling Psychologist

Right-brained people gain enjoyment from helping others solve their problems. This pleasure makes right-brained individuals great psychologists. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, counselling psychologists advise people on how to deal with problems of everyday living, including problems in the home, place of work, or community, to help improve their quality of life.
