You will feel efficient when you find out it's about to be someone's birthday or anniversary, and you can pull out the appropriate card and have it in the mailbox within five minutes. Keep a collection of cards for every occasion. If your cards aren't organised, you may waste time rummaging through cards to locate the one you want. Organise your gift storage space by making a greeting card organiser.

Stacking Cigar Boxes

Cigar boxes are the perfect size for storing greeting cards. Make a greeting card organiser by stacking cigar boxes and covering them with decorative paper. Find or purchase a cigar box for each category of cards you want to organise. Use a utility knife to cut the front panel of each box so that it forms a flap. Turn them upside-down and stack them on top of each other. Use glue or brads to hold them in this configuration. Use spray adhesive to cover the organiser with the paper. Affix knobs to the front flaps and add a label to indicate which cards each cigar box holds.

Felt Book

A felt card organiser will take only a little space and is a bright, cheerful way to store your cards. Cut a strip of felt 2 inches taller than your largest card. Lay four to six cards on the strip 2 inches apart. Cut the felt 2 inches from the last card. Sew pockets of felt on the strip in the same places you positioned the greeting cards. Decorate with ribbons, appliqué or fabric paint. Fold the strip of felt with the pockets on the inside until you have a book shape. Decorate the front of the book with felt shapes. If you do not want the stitches to show, double the height of the felt and fold it over after you finish sewing.

Wall Pockets

Hang a pocket greeting card organiser on the wall to free up even more room in a closet or craft room. Purchase a 22-inch by 28-inch piece of poster board along with six 6-inch by 9-inch side-opening envelopes. Glue the envelopes on the poster board and allow to dry. Use alphabet stamps to imprint the words "Birthday," "Anniversary," "Sympathy," "Blank," and any other category you'd like onto each envelope. Decorate the entire organiser with ribbons and drawings.

Envelope Book

An envelope book keeps a variety of greeting cards right at your fingertips. Purchase eight envelopes that are the size you need and bind them together using bookbinding tape. Add a decorative cardboard cover using the same technique. Affix the centre of a length of ribbon to the spine of the book to use for closure.
