Place card holders add a finishing touch to your holiday table. Make your own Christmas place card holders with natural materials as well as items readily available at local craft stores. You can reuse your Christmas place card holders year after year, or design them as holiday gifts for your guests.

Glass Ornament Place Card Holders

Clear glass ball ornaments can be the building blocks for decorative Christmas place card holders that double as party favours for your guests. Swirl three colours of paint inside the ornament to create a marbleised finish. Paint the outside with a variety of stained glass paint colours, separated by liquid leading to simulate a church window. Fill the inside of the glass ornament with holiday confetti and write a holiday message onto the outside of the ornament with a glass paint pen. You can also decorate the outside of coloured glass ornaments with glass paint pens and beaded netting to add style and elegance to your holiday table. Attach the place cards to the ornaments with holiday ribbon.

Pine Cone Christmas Trees

Decorate pine cones to resemble Christmas trees and use them for your place card holders. Spray paint the entire pine cone silver, gold, green, white or whatever colour coordinates with your holiday table. Brush glue on the tips and roll the pine cones in glitter or colourful glass seed beads to add sparkling decorations to the Christmas tree. You can also dot paint colours on the tips to resemble ornaments. To make the card holder, wrap a strand of wire securely around the tip of the pine cone and then shape the wire into a flat spiral. Insert the card between the spiralled wires.

Gift Wrapped Packages

Small, gift wrapped packages add a festive element to your holiday table. Cut blocks of foam into boxy shapes and then wrap them in Christmas paper. Encircle the wrapped packages with ribbons and small, premade bows. Slide thin ribbon strands over the edge of one scissors blade to curl the ribbon into spiky bows. Another way to make ribbon curls is to spray any size ribbon strips with fabric stiffener, wrap them around dowels and bake them in a 275 degree oven for 15 to 25 minutes. Make the card holder with a strand of 22-gauge craft wire. Curl one end of the wire into a flat spiral and insert the straight end into the gift wrapped package.
