A big, white cat face and an offset bow define the face of the Hello Kitty brand. Whether you choose to design a room in the serene Japanese furniture style or the urban Hello Kitty style, the main criteria include the colours pink, white and red. Incorporate a few accessories to allow the decor to grow with your child or go for an elaborate design.

A nursery receives a Hello Kitty transformation as you stripe the walls a pastel pink and white and run a flower border along the top of the ceiling. Dress the white crib with a canopy netting and hang a Hello Kitty mobile inside for the baby to watch when she awakens from her nap. Crib sheets and a comforter continue the theme into the crib, as a chair with a Hello Kitty motif in the corner gives mom a place to sit with the baby while nursing. Set several Hello Kitty dolls and her friends on the flat surfaces of the room.

As a toddler begins to recognise Kitty, bring in more Hello Kitty decor. Repaint the room into a pastel pink with white bead board bottom and place a Hello Kitty border between the two. Place decals of Kitty and her twin sister, Mimmy, along with a couple of pink flowers, on the wall or place the decals on the front of a white closet or dresser drawer. Install a Hello Kitty light switch plate and add a Hello Kitty clock to the wall.

Schoolgirls might appreciate a white headboard of the face of Hello Kitty complete with whiskers and a red bow or the more conservative one of a hair bow. Dress the bed with a valance, sheet and comforter in the Hello Kitty design and set up a Hello Kitty vanity display containing a matching Hello Kitty lighted make-up mirror, hair brush and comb. Accessories include a Hello Kitty alarm clock, a rounded chair imprinted with the logo and a jewellery box with a Hello Kitty logo to hold the Hello Kitty bracelets, earrings and necklaces your child collects. Apply a Hello Kitty princess castle giant mural to one of the walls.

Accent a Room

Rather than design a room around Hello Kitty, place a few well-chosen accents to bring the theme into the room but not overpower the room with the theme. Hang a collection of Hello Kitty backpacks, key chains or purses on the wall to show your fondness of the theme or bring in a Hello Kitty cuddle pillow or cuddle wrap blanket. Display a collection of Hello Kitty beanie babies or the new doll collection on a bookshelf.
