Supervisors should perform regular health and safety audits in order to help their companies find and fix safety hazards. These audits allow corporations to assess the effectiveness of their safety programs and identify trouble spots. They can shed light on unsafe working conditions and help to improve the company's overall performance.

Work Area

A large part of any health and safety audit checklist pertains to the employees' work area. The list should note whether or not the work area is kept clean and organised. Keeping work areas organised and clear of debris helps to reduce health and safety hazards. Work areas should be easily accessible to all employees without equipment or misplaced objects clogging the walkways. Employees found violating safety requirements can be required to correct the issue immediately or face disciplinary action.

Tools and Equipment

Check all tools and equipment to make sure they are working properly. Old or damaged equipment may cause injury to employees, including electric shock, cuts and burns. Tools that are not working or that are missing their safety guards should be repaired or replaced immediately. Supervisors should verify that employees know how to properly operate all tools and equipment prior to their use.

First Aid

All companies should have first-aid policies and procedures that are enforced. Supervisors should note the location and supply levels of all first-aid kits. Make sure all employees understand the company's first-aid policies and know the location of the first-aid kits in case of emergency.

Workers' Compensation

The company should have insurance that allows for workers' compensation benefits to help cover employee health costs that result from workplace injuries. Workers' compensation insurance only covers injuries sustained on the job.
