However, according to Window & Door magazine, in 2009 a few companies did more business than any other. Each of these companies has its specialities and its own unique history, all things you may wish to take into account as you try to decide what kind of a window may work best for you.

In 2009 Andersen Windows was rated as the most profitable window-making company in the United States, doing over £0.6 billion in business. Andersen has 14,000 employees and manufactures different kinds of windows, including wood, vinyl, and composite replacement windows. Andersen also makes windows in many styles, including bay windows, casement windows, double-hung windows and gliding windows.

Jeld-Wen did over £0.6 billion in 2009 business, and is therefore credited by Window & Door as the second best window-making company in the United States. Jeld-Wen is based in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where it was founded in 1960. At that time, it was just a 15-employee operation. They sell wood, vinyl and aluminium windows, as well as a wide variety of doors.

Pella Corporation

The Pella Corporation is the third highest selling window company on Window & Door's list, also crossing the £0.6 billion threshold. Pella is sells wood, vinyl, and fibreglass windows, as well as storefront windows, architectural windows, and a wide variety of doors. Pella was founded in 1925, and is still owned by the same family that founded the company. They have 8,500 employees.

Atrium Windows and Doors is located in Dallas, Texas, and according to Window & Door took in just under £0.6 billion in 2009. Atrium has been in existence for more than 50 years, and claim on their website to be the largest manufacturer and distributor of residential vinyl and aluminium windows and patio doors.
