Making easy pencil topper crafts is an affordable way to keep your kids entertained over the summer months and prepare them for going back to school. Your child's artistic, customised pencils will make him the envy of his classmates. Use ribbon, beads, crafting foam and yarn pom poms to craft pencil toppers.

Craft Foam Insects

Craft foam comes in a wide array of colours and is very easy to use. Cut out insect shapes, like ladybirds or butterflies. Use permanent markers to draw facial features or other accents onto the craft foam. Cut two small slits in the centre of your shape. Slide your pencil through the two slits.

Ribbon and Bead Danglers

Tightly wrap the eraser portion of the pencil with ribbon. String colourful beads on a piece of needle and thread at least 2 inches in length. Run the needle through the ribbon and make a knot. Cut the thread beyond the knot to release the needle. Repeat until your pencil top is full of dangling beads.

Pom Pom Monster

Craft pom poms come in many different colours and sizes. Glue a large pom to the pencil’s eraser for the monster's head. Glue small pom poms into place for the ears and nose. Add adhesive-backed wiggly craft eyes to the face to complete your monster pencil topper.
