After a baby begins to crawl, the natural (and quick) progression is to begin learning to walk. A baby begins the walking process by learning to stand and sit without the aid of someone picking her up or sitting her back down. One way to aid your baby on the quest to mobility is to provide toys that safely assist your baby in pulling herself up from the floor to a standing position.

Walk and Ride Toys

Toys made for babies to ride on and push are perfect for babies learning to pull up. They provide a place for the baby to sit and propel the car with his feet, which exercises leg and foot muscles and strengthens them for walking later on. These types of toys have a handle that a baby uses to pull himself up from sitting or crawling on the floor. The base of this type of toy should be wide and stable, so that it does not tip over and fall when your baby pulls up on it.

Toddler Gyms

These "gyms" are often made of a mat with attached arches. The mat is soft and flexible, while the arches are sturdy and strong. This type of toy is ideal for a baby to grab onto and pull herself up. These toys often include spinning toys, balls or lights on the arches to encourage babies to learn colours, shapes and to keep them interested as they learn pulling up. Even better, these toys are usually adjustable--lowering for babies who can only lie down, raising for babies learning to stand, and including learning activities for babies who can walk already.

Walker Wagon

This toy is similar to the walk and ride toys. However, this toy is a version of the classic child's wagon toy. A sturdy base with a wagon built on holds any toys your baby wants to "drive" around. The base has a large, strong handle for the baby to grab and lift himself off the floor. Edges on walker wagons are rounded to prevent injuries when babies tumble onto the wagon. This is a classic toy highly recommended for babies learning to pull up.
