Wooden crafts can be both fun and easy. (wood image by Amjad Shihab from Fotolia.com)

Wooden crafts are not necessarily more complicated or difficult than crafts made with other materials. There are simple beginner projects that even the amateur craft maker can complete. In most cases, an easy wooden project can be beautified with stains and paint. Common wooden household novelties, wooden outdoor decorations and special wooden gifts can all be easily created with only a few tools and supplies.

Paper Towel Holder

A wooden paper towel holder is extremely useful in the home, and it is also very easy to make. The under-the-cabinet style holder can be created from any type of wood. The simple "U" shape design has a base, two sides and a dowel for the towels. A jigsaw can cut out your pieces while a router helps shape and round off rough edges. Attach the sides to the base, and attach the base under your cabinets.

A birdhouse is the classic wood project. A home for feathered friends can be as simple or as complicated as you desire. Not only is a basic wooden birdhouse simple to make, it can also be very inexpensive when constructed from cheap plywood. Use a hammer, nails and glue to piece together a diamond-shaped house. Add two sides to the top for a roof and a small dowel for a bird landing. Top off the project by adding details and designs with paint.

Treasure Box

A secret treasure box may be one of the easiest wooden projects to make. Any type of wood can be used depending on the appearance you wish your box to have. The project is created with simple rectangular designs for both the box and lid. No detailed cuttings or complicated shapes are required. Add personality to the box by stencilling or painting the lid.
