Aspiring gymnasts can tumble and twist to their heart's content at summer gymnastics camps. Camps are available to boys and girls, elementary through high school at all skill levels. Along with learning how to use the balance beam, high bar or vault, campers can go swimming, horseback riding or canoeing with their peers. Parents should seek out summer gymnastic camps where classes are taught by safety, first aid or CPR certified teachers.

International Gymnastics Camp

International Gymnastics Camp (IGC) offers nine, weeklong sessions during the summer for aspiring male and female gymnasts between the ages of 7 and 17. IGC recommends that campers participate in at least two sessions. Gymnastics training is available at beginner through advanced levels, IGC notes on its website that about half of the campers who attend its summer programs are beginners. There are six, half-hour classes offered each day, along with evening recreational activities, and a Saturday movie night. To help ensure camper's safety, all IGC staffers are certified in first aid and CPR and have passed a background check. IGC offers individual gyms devoted to various apparatus such as balance beam, vault and bars. Campers reside on IGC's campus during training sessions; two counsellors are assigned to each cabin.

US Gymnastics Training Camp

The US Gymnastics Camp at Mount Holyoke College gives participants the opportunity to train on all of the Olympic apparatus. Upon arrival at camp, students are tested on each apparatus to determine skill level so that they can be placed in the appropriate class. While the majority of campers are beginning gymnasts, participants of advanced skill levels are welcome, and staff are capable of spotting advanced-level skills. Campers are expected to practice gymnastics for at least four hours per day, and can choose from group or individual classes. In the evening, campers participate in recreational activities such as arts and crafts, movies and skits. The US Gymnastics Training Camp is open to boys and girls from 8 years of age.
