Painting your face like a demon on Halloween is a frightening and fun way to celebrate the holiday. Any number of different types of demons can serve as inspiration, some involving a number of different types of paint and designs. What you choose depends on how much work you want to do on your demon face paint and how difficult it will be to get off in the morning.

Based on the horror movie series Hellraiser, face paint can be done in the style of the main villain in that film. This is a rather simple painting job, but has a subtle amount of complexity. The face should be painted entirely white, including the bald cap which you will have to wear over your hair, unless you are bald and just want to paint your head itself white. Lines must then be drawn, an equal number of vertical and horizontal lines which are each about an inch apart. These will cross, making a series of squares on the face. At the points of the squares, small pieces of paper or pipe cleaners should be attached to the face in some way, to represent the nails which stick out of the Hellraiser's head and face in the films.

Devil Face

The most infamous of all demons is the Devil himself, who has been represented in a wide variety of forms in different artistic mediums. The classic and easiest way to paint your face to look like the devil is to obviously paint it red. Not a bright red but a subtler shade of red, which may look more menacing and evil when it comes to accurately representing that demon. Black around the eyes or in contacts over the eyes themselves are also another good touch to bring out the frightening quality of this demon's facial expressions, or lack thereof. Then again, you might want to take a funnier approach and paint your face like a good-natured, funny devil who may not be all bad, just misunderstood.

Green Goblin

First appearing in the Spiderman comic books in the 1960s, the Green Goblin is one of the more popular demons which is often represented in costume. The face painting for this costume is relatively simple, in that the face is painted the right shade of slightly darkened green. However, the most important part of the Green Goblin outfit are the outrageously large ears, so unless you are the proud anatomical owner of a set of these, buying prosthetics is a must. A prosthetic nose may also be a good idea, though you can usually get away with just the green face paint and the ears. The shinier the face paint the better, as it will make you look that much more creepy.
