For teens who are interested in science, summer camps are a great way to help them to expand their scientific knowledge in hands-on ways. Camps are offered in day camp and overnight formats. Some camps are open only to boys or only to girls. A lot of universities also offer science camps to help students experience the sciences at an advanced level.
Penn State Science-U
Science-U, sponsored by Penn State, offers a variety of programs for students in second grade through 12th grade. A variety of camps are offered on various scientific topics. Students attend camps by grade level. For fifth through 12th graders, day camp and overnight camps are offered. As of 2010, day camps range in cost from £208 to £276 and overnight camps cost approximately £429. Camps last one week and are offered the last week of June through the first week of August.

Out-of-this-World Science Camps
The Virginia Air and Space Center offers Out-of-this-World Science Camps for students in sixth through eighth grade. Camps last four days and run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Five different camps are offered throughout the summer, on topics ranging from aerospace engineering to animation to satellite technology. The cost of each camp is £110 for non-members and £104 for members, as of 2010. Camp attendees can purchase lunch for £3 a day.

Boys aged 7 through 15 can attend Science Camp Watonka. Students spend two periods a day focusing on an area of science of their choice and the rest of the day on activities such as archery, camping skills, swimming, and rocketry. Camps are offered in two-, four-, six-, and eight-week sessions from the last week of June through the last week of August. The cost of the camp in 2010 ranges from £1,556 for a two-week session to £4,221 for an eight-week session. This fee includes all laundry fees, activities, and supplies.

Lawrence Hall of Science Summer Camps
The Lawrence Hall of Science at the University of California - Berkeley offers overnight research camps for high school students. During these camps students engage in college-level research activities. The 2010 cost of the camp is approximately £650, and 20 to 24 campers are accepted for each session. Two one-week camps are offered, one focusing on marine biology and the other on wildlife biology.
