When one of your shoe heels breaks or one of your shoes gets a hole in it, you are left with a single shoe. If it seems too wasteful to throw it away, there are plenty of crafts that you can do with a single high heeled shoe or two shoes that have seen better days. Turn shoes into fancy new dress up items, a costume or even a garden planter.

Planter in a Shoe

There are planters made out of old boots, but what if you're more fashionable than that? Add potting soil to a high-heeled shoe. Place annual plants, like lobelia, into the shoe and drape them over the edges. If you want plants that will last, place sedums or other plants that love dry soil into the shoes. If you have enough old shoes, you can make an entire pathway lined with shoes of various sorts, all used as planters.

Glittery Dress-Up Shoes

Every little girl who has seen "The Wizard of Oz" yearns for some fancy dress up shoes. While little girls have a lot of choice in shoes their own size, dressing up in some of mom's or grandma's shoes is a thrill unto itself. Collect plastic rhinestones and glitter and craft acrylic paint. Have the child paint on the outside of the shoes. Let them dry. Add a layer of white tacky glue and place rhinestones and glitter on the shoes. Let them dry. Now your child has shiny, fabulous dress-up shoes for indoors.

Door Stop

For those who are always losing the wedge to keep the door open in warm, but windy, weather, there's another solution and it's the high-heeled shoe. The front of the shoe sticks into the bottom of the door, while the heel prevents the door from moving backward. Varnish, guild, or paint the shoe to keep it intact in case of damp weather. Those who are talented at painting can paint flowers or other images on the shoe.

Halloween Decoration

There's nothing creepier for Halloween than to see hands and feet poking out from the mailbox, over a wall or behind a shrub. Decorate a pretend cemetery and then pretend that the zombies are coming by placing stuffed nylon stockings in high-heeled shoes sticking out of the ground. Spatter them with red paint for good effect. If you're looking for less gore, stuff a nylon stocking in a round shape, and make it into a witch's head by painting a face on it and adding a hat. Place it at the top of a shrub or put it on a hook so that it looks like it is looking around the corner of your house. A few feet down, place one or two high-heeled shoes with stuffed nylon stockings inside them. You'll achieve the effect of having a witch peeking out at you without having to make the entire body.
