In 2010, U.S. News & World Report ranked the best MPA programs in the United States according to ratings given by university faculty and deans through a process of peer review. These programs prepare students for a career in public affairs and government administration.

Syracuse University

Syracuse University was ranked the top public administration school in the United States by U.S. News & World Report in 2010. The campus is located in Syracuse, New York. This school became the first in the country to offer a graduate level public administration program in 1924. The department awards both undergraduate and graduate level degrees. The school also offers a master's of arts in international relations, a joint degree that results in both a master's of public administration and a Juris Doctorate from the Syracuse Law School, and a joint master's of public administration and master's of arts in international relations. Syracuse also has a program that caters to the needs of mid-career professionals seeking to continue their education.

University of Georgia

The School of Public and International Affairs at University of Georgia contains three academic departments; the Department of International Affairs, the Department of Political Science, and the Department of Public Administration. This school was named second best graduate level public affairs program in the United States in 2010 by U.S. News & World Report. It has two research centres, the Center for International Trade and Security and the Center for the Study of Global Issues. Two faculty members under this division have been awarded UGA's highest teaching award, five were chosen for college-level education awards, and three were recognised by the University Honor's Program for excellence in teaching.

Indiana University

The University of Indiana is a multi-campus institution, with locations in eight cities across the state of Indiana. The first of which was the flagship campus in Bloomington, founded in 1820. Its public affairs department was named third among top American public administration departments by U.S. News & World Report in its 2010 ranking of graduate schools. In 2005, Newsweek included this school in its listing of the "Hottest Big State Schools." This school's Masters of Public Affairs program has an applied focus which seeks to prepare graduates for leadership roles in a wide variety of disciplines. The program requires 48 credi thours and typically takes two years to complete.
