Male genital grooming tips
There are many reasons a man may want to shave his genital area. (mounted razor image by Randy McKown from Fotolia.com)

When a man decides to groom his genital region it is a very personal decision. You may be doing it for hygiene reasons. You may think it will be more comfortable. Maybe your wife or girlfriend requested it. No matter the reason, a man's genital area is no place to be wielding a sharp razor if you don't know what you're doing.

Test Skin

According to eMale.com, if your skin is sensitive and usually reacts to shaving creams and gels, the allergic reaction on your genitals could be intense. Since the skin there always is covered and not exposed to the elements like your face, it can be very sensitive. Test a small area with some shaving cream. If you experience a bad reaction, either abort the idea or seek help from a spa or salon professional.

Trim First

Before you start shaving, use clippers and trim the area down. Take as much off as you can without cutting yourself.

Sharp Razor

Since the male genital area is so uneven and awkward, it's very important to use a sharp razor. A dull razor can catch on the skin and this is an area you don't want to cut. Also, try to avoid electric razors, wax or chemicals to remove hair from your penis or scrotum. Electric razors will pull the hairs straight out and chemicals are unpredictable. The bikini area is suitable for wax, but skin on the scrotum is loose and will stretch when the wax is removed and can cause intense pain. If you choose this option, proceed at your own risk.

Hot Shower

Get into the shower to soften up your pores before you start. While you are in there, lather your penis and scrotum with shaving cream. Choose a shaving cream that is designed for sensitive skin whether your skin is sensitive or not. This will ensure the least amount of overall irritation.

Rinse Razor Often

Rinse your razor after every stroke. It may seem like a lot, but you do not want anything but a smooth shave down there. Take your time and be especially careful around your scrotum.

Moisturise

When you are finished grooming, apply a sensitive skin moisturiser to your penis and scrotum. Be sure it doesn't contain any colours or fragrances.
