DJ games can help entertain kids (DJ wave 16 image by Nathalie P from

If you are a professional disc jockey, sooner or later you may be hired to work at a party for children. Kids can get easily bored, and dancing to a string of back-to-back songs may not be enough to keep them entertained. You will likely need to come up with some games to keep the party hopping. Some DJ games for kids that you can try are limbo, musical chairs and freeze dance.

A party game that has been around for several years is limbo. You just need a broomstick and the song "Limbo Rock" to play this game. Two adults can hold the broomstick, or any kind of long stick, at opposite ends. The adults hold the stick parallel to the floor. As you play "Limbo Rock" the kids take turns trying to go under the stick while bending over backwards. If a child's hand touches the floor, if he falls or if he bumps the stick, then he is out of the game. After each child has had a chance to go under the limbo stick, the adults lower it a few inches. The winner of the game is the last remaining child who can successfully pass underneath the stick.

Musical Chairs

As the DJ, you will be the one who controls this game. Musical chairs is played by placing several chairs in the middle of a room. The number of chairs should be one less than the number of kids. When you play the music, the kids walk around the chairs in a circle. When you stop the music, each kid must quickly find a chair and sit in it. The child who does not sit in a chair is out of the game. One chair is then removed from the game and you start the music once again. Eventually, the game comes down to one chair and two kids. When you stop the music, the child who sits in this final chair is the winner of musical chairs.

Freeze Dance

Freeze dance is a game that gets all the kids dancing and it can be a lot of fun. As the children are dancing, you abruptly stop the music. The kids must immediately freeze. The kids who continue to move are out of the game. You can make the game more enjoyable by telling the kids to do "The Twist" or dance like a bird. The child who can continue to freeze just when the music stops after all others have been eliminated is the winner of this game. Use songs that are popular with the kids to help keep them interested in this game.
