University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

One of the best environmental engineering programs in the nation is located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The 2010 "U.S. News & World Report" rankings of environmental engineering departments placed the university at third in the nation compared to all other environmental engineering schools. The environmental and engineering science program at Illinois offers graduate degrees at both the master's and doctoral levels in many different research specialisations. Some of these include structural engineering, geo-technical engineering, construction materials, transportation engineering, environmental hydrology and hydraulic engineering. Research is focused on topics related to water use and improvement, urban development, aquatic ecology, antibiotic treatment and resistance, and manufacturing and design in an environmentally friendly manner.
