Teen girls are known for their interest in being well-groomed. But teens involved in after-school activities and sports may not have time to handle an edgy, high-fashion 'do every day. They need a low-maintenance hairstyle that is still stylish. Lucky for them, bedhead, low-maintenance styles like a messy ponytails are youthful, flirty and easy to do.

Side Ponytail

One messy hairstyle favoured by teens is a side ponytail. This style actually looks best when messy; it looks odd when it is too neat. To create the look, just comb your hair and add some pomade to create beachy waves. Part your hair on one side and sweep the hair to the other side so it hangs or lies over your shoulder. Use a rubber-band or a ribbon to secure the hair. If you have fringe, sweep them to the same side as the ponytail. To catch any wayward hairs on the top, use decorative clips.

High Ponytail

Another option for teens is to wear hair in a high ponytail. It's sporty looking and easy to create. Just loosely sweep the hair up into a ponytail at the crown of your head. Use a rubber band to secure the ponytail. Don't pull back all of the pieces into the ponytail. Allow loose tendrils to frame your face.

Ponytail with Headband

Use headbands to decorate your messy ponytail. Just pull your hair back into any type of ponytail, low, high or regular. Add a headband with embellishment, such as a bow or flower. Another option is to wear two thin headbands together. Headbands add a bit of glamour to a messy ponytail without making it appear overdone.

A ponytail with extra volume on top is another cute messy look. To create this look, tease the hair at the crown with a rattail comb. Take the hair close to your hairline that will lie on top and smooth it back over the hair that you teased. Then spray it lightly with hairspray and pull the hair up into a ponytail.
