    School Fashion Show Ideas

Whether creating a school fashion show as a fundraiser or spotlighting the work your fashion club has done, the key to a successful runway event is being organised. The lighting, staging, hair and make-up team, models, and of course, clothing, all should support the fashion show's theme and showcase the school's talent.

    Theme

Setting a theme for the fashion show will help organise the show and make decisions easier, such as what clothing to feature. Fashion shows typically have a seasonal theme. If you choose a fall or spring theme, models wear fashions corresponding to that season. However, if you want a more unusual or educational show, try using a book theme. For example, a "Great Gatsby" theme might feature formal gowns on the runway, while beachwear could be used for a "Robinson Crusoe" theme.

    Clothing

Every fashion show needs fashions. Ask local boutiques if you can borrow clothing for the event. Discuss with the boutique owner about whether tags can be removed or must stay on the clothes and then be hidden for the show. Pick up the clothing prior to the show and with enough time for the models to try it on and do a run-through. Return the clothes as soon as possible to keep a good relationship with the boutique. In exchange for letting the fashion show use the clothing, offer the boutique a mention in the show program or by the show host. This tells the audience where they can buy the clothing they see on the runway.

    Models

School fashion shows usually include students as models. You can hold tryouts or ask for volunteers for the show. If you don't want to use student models, you can use parents or hire models from the "new faces" division of a modelling agency. These models, who are new to the industry, will typically charge a lower rate than experienced models.

    Lighting

The high school gym's lighting isn't likely to be adequate for a fashion show. For a better looking event, you can hire a professional lighting team or utilise the high school theatre department's resources. When the models first enter the runway, put the spotlight on each one to showcase the look. During the grand finale, when the final and best looks come down the runway, change the lighting to a more intense hue, perhaps even a colour such as a soft blue or purple.

    Music

The music you choose for the show will energise the crowd and set the mood. You may ask a student to serve as your disc jockey or ask the high school band or choir to be involved.
