Teenagers appreciate creative bedroom decor that reflects their individual style. Incorporate your teen's ideas into the decor planning and dedicate wall space or a cork board to a display of artwork, photographs, souvenirs and memorabilia that evoke memories and spark conversations. Your teenager may enjoy working on a do-it-yourself project to enliven the space, such as decoupaging a wooden stool or painting a canvas with an abstract design.

Urban Industrial

Celebrate street art and city funk with urban industrial bedroom decor. Galvanised steel, copper, oxidised metal and hammered tin on furniture frames, storage containers, picture frames and accessories give the room a contemporary edge. Devote one or two walls to a display of graffiti art or a wallpaper mural with an image of spray-painted artwork. A loft bed with a desk underneath lends the space the feeling of a loft conversion. Finish the look with track lighting that points toward various works of art in the room.

Indian Palace

For a rococo, bohemian effect, give a teen bedroom an Indian palace makeover. A low platform bed with a futon makes for a simple start. Embellish it with a brilliant Sari or batik cloth for a bedspread and pillows trimmed in fringe, tassels and pom poms. Overhead, hang a mosquito net or sheer fabric for a canopy. Scatter large floor cushions around a tufted ottoman for a meditation or reading corner. Punctured tin lanterns or silk and paper shades provide lighting.

Surf Shack

Celebrate sand and surf with a beach-party theme room. Paint walls Mediterranean blues and greens, with white accents for a nautical touch. Distressed wooden frames or weathered-grey wood give bedroom furniture a sun-baked look. Bedroom textiles may include prints of shells, tropical flowers or tiki art. Blend indoors and out with potted palm plants in sunny corners or leafy green vines hanging around windows. A fishing net may display starfish, shells, driftwood and coral. Fill glass jars with sea glass and set them on window sills to add glimmer to the room.
