AngloGold Ashanti Limited
AngloGold Ashanti Limited had 21 active mining operations on four continents in 2009. The company has operational gold mines in North America, South America, Australia, and Africa. AngloGold Ashanti is also well known for its worldwide exploration activities. In 2008, AngloGold Ashanti produced 4.98 million ounces of gold from its operations and anticipated that gold production for 2009 would be 4.8 million ounces. This makes AngloGold Ashanti the third largest gold producer in the world as of 2009. AngloGold Ashanti explorations were responsible for finding one of the most valuable gold deposits of the decade in the discovery of the La Colosa deposit in Columbia, South America. Exploration teams believe the deposit has an estimated 12 million ounces of mineable gold resources.

The Newmont Mining Corporation has been in operation since 1921. Its headquarters is in Denver, Colorado but the company has operational mines in North America, South America, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Australia. In addition to the gold mines owned and operated by the company, Newmont has copper, silver, lead, uranium, coal, lithium, and zinc mines across the globe. In 2009, Newmont produced 5.3 million ounces of gold from its mines. In 2010, Newmont's Chief Executive Officer is Richard O'Brien.
