Whiskey barrel planters are flower pots made out of the bottoms of whiskey barrels or are constructed to look like the base of a whiskey barrel. These planters are rustic-looking and fit into a country, western, or ranch decor on a patio or front stoop. Fill whiskey barrel planters with flowers that match the laid-back feel of these homey planters.

White Planter with Roses

Create a charming country cottage look with a whiskey barrel planter filled with colourful roses. The key to this look is in the colour of the whiskey barrel. Paint it white to create a "white picket fence" feel. Plant English roses and other romantic blooms in pink and peach. Adapt the country cottage feel for the English cottage feel by filling white barrels with English ivy, which will cascade down the sides.

Bold Beachy Barrels

Paint several whiskey barrel planters bold "beachy" colours, such as bright yellow, magenta and turquoise. This is a whimsical theme for a cottage, ranch or country house and adds a little creativity to an outdoor display. Fill the barrels with blooming wildflowers, lavender, hydrangeas, sunflowers or brightly coloured Gerber daisies.

Veggie Barrels

Plant vegetables in your whiskey barrel planters. This works well if you have only a small spot for a garden and you want your plants close to your door. Plant herbs such as mint, rosemary, thyme and basil in one or more of the planters. Tomatoes also may work well in a planter, as they are a vine plant that can grow on a dowel you insert into the planter.
