The Egyptian queen Nefertiti lived from 1390 to 1360 B.C. and was considered the beauty of her time. She had many sculptures, paintings and other objects created in her image, including a bust that's among the most recognised artefacts of ancient Egypt today. All of these images emphasised her slender, long neck, beautiful facial features and exquisite jewelled collar and headdress. Nefertiti would make an great costume for Halloween or any costume party, especially if you want to feel pretty. To get an idea of what your costume should look like, find images of Nefertiti online (see resource link for an example).

Nefertiti's headdress, seen in almost every image over, provides the most recognisable element to a Nefertiti costume. She wore a tall, somewhat cone-shaped crown that was flat on top and tapered down to the hairline, covering her hair completely. Make the headdress using construction paper and glue; or try poster board covered in fabric. Decorate the headdress as it appears in images of her bust using poster paints, stickers or collage. For a more finished look, trim the headdress with gold foil and glue on small costume gems.
Nefertiti's facial make-up resembles images of Cleopatra. Wear a bronze-coloured foundation that matches images of Nefertiti. Add heavy, deep purple eyeshadow all the way to the eyebrow. Draw heavy, dark black lines along the edges of both eyelids with eyeliner. The two lines should meet in a point on the outside corner of the eye. Use a heavy black eyebrow pencil and a deep, dark red lipstick.
In her royal images, Nefertiti wore a thick, rounded collar necklace draped across her shoulders and chest, made of solid gold and adorned with jewels. Make this out of painted cardboard, or cover cardboard with gold foil and costume jewels. Nefertiti also wore huge hoop earrings; find an appropriate pair at a dollar-store costume jewellery department. Painted pictures often depicted Nefertiti wearing many hoop bracelets. Wear bangle bracelets sold as costume jewellery. Finally, Nefertiti wore a thick, jewelled belt around the waist of her robe. Use any ornate belt you have at home for your costume; or buy a thick belt at a second-hand store and glue on costume jewels.
Nefertiti wore a long, flowing robe like gown or toga in most of her pictures. The robe had short sleeves and a high, rounded collar that left her chest covered up. Use a long white robe, or make one out of sheets, much like a toga. Decorate the collar with cardboard covered in felt and colourful beads or costume gems.
