Gift Ideas for Women Age 50-Plus

Updated March 23, 2017

Women 50 and older can be difficult to buy for. These sophisticated ladies often already have many of gifts that you might consider bestowing upon a younger recipient. However, with a little ingenuity and creativity, you can come up with an uncommon gift that will be perfect for the older woman in your life. Consider her individual wants, needs and interests to procure a gift that she will surely love.

Picture-Based Gifts

Surprise the gift recipient with a thoughtful present that contains pictures that she holds dear. Surreptitiously borrow some significant photos from her and have them reprinted in a larger size, turned into a coffee mug, blanket or calendar or placed in custom frames. Many drugstores and department stores offer photo services that allow you to easily turn her prized photos into memorable mementos.

Spa Treatment

Provide her with the opportunity to kick back and relax by purchasing a gift token to the local spa. Allow her to treat her toes, cure her aching muscles and procure a new do while you foot the bill. Many women put off treating themselves. If your gift recipient is the type to put herself last, make the appointment for her so she has no excuse not to indulge in pampering.

Chores Coupon Book

Give a gift that keeps on giving by providing the recipient with a book full of coupons for chore completion. Include coupons for everything from cleaning the gutters to painting the mailbox. This allows her to pull out coupons and present them to you throughout the year when she finds that she is in need of a little assistance around the house. It also prevents her from doing certain chores that she may find difficult or dangerous.

Enrichment Class

Pay her fee for a local class. Consider her interests, and enrol her in an art, technology or fitness class, for example. Also purchase any supplies that she will need to participate in the class in question to eliminate any objection she may have to taking advantage of the educational opportunity.

While some consider letter-writing to be passé, many older women still delight in putting pen to paper. Provide her with the tools that she needs to do this by giving her a stationary set. Select a lovely floral print, or purchase a monogrammed set with her initials so that the paper is uniquely hers. Perhaps she will even write you a thank you note for your kindness and use your gift to do so.
