Throw your daughter a cowgirl theme birthday party is she loves the old west and horses, and wants to grow up to be a cowgirl. You can easily incorporate cowgirl images and symbols, such as hats and boots, into various aspects of her birthday party, including the birthday cake.

Make a birthday cake look like a cowgirl hat, or add an edible hat on top of a regular sheet cake. For a hat-shaped cake, bake the cake in an oval, oven safe bowl and decorate the cake using fondant. Wrap rolled aluminium foil in paper towels to help shape the fondant, and let it sit overnight to harden into the right shape. If you aren't familiar with using fondant, consider shaping a baked rice crispy treat into a hat to sit on top of the sheet cake. Place miniature novelty plastic cowgirl hats on top of the cake or simply create a cowgirl hat with frosting. Decorate the icing hat with sugar sprinkles or other edible embellishments.

Make a three-dimensional bust of a horse head if your little cowgirl loves ponies. Stack small layers of a cake, and cut away different parts until it resembles a horse head. Bake the cake by using a speciality cake pan or cut away a sheet cake until you have a horse shape. Decorate accordingly. Another option is to bake a regular cake, and decorate the cake with green icing or green coconut shreds. Stick little plastic horse figures on the "grass" and decorate around the grass with edible flowers.

Decorate a star-shaped cake like a sheriff's badge if your girl likes rounding up the bad guys. Cut away from a round cake, or use a star-shaped cake pan. Layer stars for a larger cake, or to simply give the cake more dimension.

Create a boot-shaped cake by trimming excess cake from a typical rectangular shaped cake. Decorate the cake to look like a boot. Use a cupcake or leftover bits of cake from the trim to create spurs. Use small plastic novelty boots to leave "boot tracks" on the cake, and leave them at the edge of the cake.

Use a round cake to make horseshoe-shaped cakes or create a miniature game of horseshoes out of candy. The cake can have green or brown coconut shreds for the horseshoe pit. Insert toothpicks or short candy, such as Kit Kat bars, as the horseshoe rings. Cut gummy candy into small horseshoes to sprinkle around the horseshoe pit.

Each cupcake can have a different coloured cowgirl hat, boot or pony. Use cupcake picks with western items, novelty items or small plastic toys to decorate each cupcake. You also can use cowgirl candles, such as those shaped like a horse's head, cowgirl boot or hat.
