When planning a wedding, it is important to make sure you have a container or box that guests can put cards in. Many guests choose to give cash or checks, and there needs to be a secure place for these. The container should be functional yet pretty. It is typically placed on the gift table, so it should match the other wedding decor.

Paper Boxes

Paper boxes are convenient because they can be cheaper, especially if you assemble and decorate them yourself. They can be disassembled after the wedding is over and reused or recycled. Paper boxes come in all forms and sizes. Common shapes include wedding cakes, mailboxes, wishing wells, churches, treasure chests, and just regular square boxes. Many craft stores have these boxes with pieces already cut out, so all you need to do is select the shape you want and put it together. You can colour paper boxes or decorate them with ribbons, flowers, stencils and many other craft supplies. They have a slot that guests can put their cards in, making it difficult for cards to be lost or stolen.

Metal Cages

Another option many couples choose is a metal cage. Typical metal card cages include birdcages and gazebos. There are stores that will make custom-shaped metal card boxes. You can personalise cages with paint, and some couples choose to attach flowers or other accessories to them. These can be more expensive and take up a lot of room. Also, depending on the type of cage, it can be easy for people to slip cards out of it.

Glass Boxes

Glass boxes make pretty, transparent card boxes. They can often be engraved with the bride and groom's names and their wedding date or some other embellishment. Some glass boxes include places for the bride and groom to place photos of themselves. The prices vary on these types of boxes depending on how much personalisation is added to them. This type of box is a nice keepsake that the bride and groom can use for many years. Glass boxes typically have a slot at the top for cards and are completely enclosed, making them more secure than some paper or metal cage boxes.

Wooden Boxes

If you want to be absolutely sure that nobody can steal cards from your box, a locked wooden box is a good option to consider. These boxes can be personalised with engravings, and some boxes include places for pictures of the bride and groom. Wooden boxes have hinges at the top, and some can be locked with a key. They have a small slot for cards at the top. Though they can be more expensive, they are the most secure type of gift card box.
