Famous Duos Costume Ideas

Updated April 17, 2017

Dress up with your best friend or significant other as a famous duo. You can make your own costumes with household goods and basic craft supplies, or you can purchase ready-made, famous-duo costumes at costume shops or online retail stores. You can find a famous-duo couple costume to suit your personality or sense of humour.

TV Show Duos

Dress up as Bert and Ernie, the memorable puppet pair from "Sesame Street." You can buy ready-made Bert and Ernie costumes for children, teenagers and adults at costume stores, or you can make your own Bert and Ernie heads with craft foam. You can assemble their outfits with colourful clothes from the back of your closet.

Fred and Wilma Flintstone outfits work well for a humorous couple costume. You can make the costumes with inexpensive orange and white fabrics or sheets. Simply hot-glue a few black felt triangles to Fred’s costume, and find black and red wigs.

Movie Duos

Dress up as Batman and Robin with a friend and fellow superhero fan. You can use coloured tights and leotards for the bases of the costumes and attach felt insignias with hot glue. Use simple metallic fabric to make the capes.

Couples with plenty of leather in their wardrobes can dress up as Danny and Sandy from the 1978 movie “Grease.” Complete the look with black and blond wigs, and learn a few “Grease” duets to sing together.

For a more dramatic movie-duo costume, look for a ready-made King Kong or basic gorilla costume to pair with a ready-made or homemade Ann Darrow outfit to dress up as the famous duo from the 1933 movie “King Kong.”

Food Duos

For a more humorous duo costume, dress up as a famous combination of food items, such as crackers and cheese, wine and cheese, chips and salsa or peanut butter and jelly. To dress as wine and cheese, one person can attach purple balloons to a sweater or shirt and carry a wine bottle, and the other can wrap yellow, spray-painted foam around a box large enough to fit around the torso. You also can find a variety of ready-made food costumes for couples. Look for coffee and doughnut, salt and pepper, ketchup and mustard or bacon and eggs.
