There's no place like home and no room that says "home" like a kitchen. Perhaps that's why cafe restaurants have been and continue to be so popular--because they convey casual style and warmth. Recreate a cafe look that embodies the foods and flavours that bring you joy. Create a signature cafe kitchen theme that will be enjoyed from the time the sun comes up in the morning until you clear the dinner dishes and turn off the lights at night.

French Bistro

The look of a French bistro as a cafe theme can work wonderfully in a kitchen. It can really be a way to give a distinctive look in a small kitchen space of an apartment or condominium. Use wrought iron chairs and small cafe-size tables for two. Decorate tables and countertops with small bud vases and seasonal flowers. Most home decor stores have wonderful reproductions of famous French artists like Monet and Van Gogh and scenes from cabarets and the famous Moulin Rouge. Have the artwork framed to match wall colours and complete the look of a French bistro. Add ferns and ivy plants to give the kitchen the look of a sidewalk French cafe

Italian Espresso Café

An Italian espresso cafe can combine a love of coffee with the romance of Italy. It can also incorporate a variety of textures, artwork and artefacts. Backsplashes can incorporate Italian tiles and combine border tiles of marble or painted to mimic foliage, or grape vines from an Italian vineyard. Contemporary granite countertops will blend perfectly. Add marble cutting boards to compliment the Italian cafe look. This is the perfect decor theme to show off the very fanciest and finest of coffee makers, espresso machines and accoutrements. Stage a collection of espresso cups to further enhance and define the theme and aesthetic. Include artwork of Italian gardens, vineyards, Tuscan villages, gondolas, the Adriatic Sea and the Mediterranean Ocean to further enhance a kitchen cafe reminiscent of Italy.

Southern Soul Food Café

Create a salute to good old-fashioned Southern cooking with a soul food cafe kitchen design. Use primary colours of red, blue and yellow to give the kitchen real Southern appeal. Bead board walls and cabinets will add an authentic touch to the room. Red and white checkered tablecloths and napkins will convey a definite signature look of Southern hospitality and style. A large display of sunflowers in vases will complete the look. A bowl of seasonal fruits in the centre of the kitchen table or a glass-covered pound cake or peach cobbler will make an inviting and tempting focal point. Make the furniture comfortable and cosy with wooden tables and cushioned chairs. Decorate walls with vintage advertisements from the 1940s to 1960s. Once the design project is complete, invite family and friends over for a soulful and soul food weekend brunch of fried eggs, ham, biscuits and grits, molasses and grape jelly in your Southern kitchen cafe.
