Flying model aeroplanes is a keen interest of many who join flying clubs and airfields scattered across the United Kingdom. The diversity of clubs flying model aeroplanes is immense. Some are very large, while some are only two or three friends that share a common interest in model aviation. Some clubs specialise, such as in model helicopters or large scale (over 20kg) aircraft. Birds of a feather flock together, and you can find great camaraderie in these clubs. If you wish to enter into this hobby, the best place to start is by seeking out the guidance of experienced hobbyists in an established flying club.

British Model Flying Association

The British Model Flying Association (BMFA) is a very large flying club, with over 36,000 members. This is an umbrella club to most of the regional clubs, about 760 clubs in number. They can provide a myriad of information, including airfield locations, referrals to regional clubs across the UK, and educational and training support. They also provide an insurance service that is model-aeroplane related.

Cirencester and District Model Aircraft Club

The Cirencester and District Model Aircraft Club is a regional club, near Gloucestershire. It is a well-established club, founded in 1947. Currently, its flying area is in the southern region of Kemble airfield. They list all their events, along with flying schedules and weather data available. They don't cater to any one particular niche (such as helicopters), anyone is welcome to join them. They also have BFMA Trainers on the membership roster, who will help you fine tune your skills. An application form is available, along with the club's handbook and rules.

The Chobham Common Model Fliers Association is another regional flying club, located in the Surrey region. Their flying field is located at the Chobham commons area, across from the public car park. One club member mounted a camera on his aeroplane, and shares his photos with the general public. They are very enthusiastic about teaching people to fly, and instructors provide services, tuition free, to anyone that expresses an interest.
