The Invitations

The invitations are the first glimpse at the party, so make sure the invitations are cute and memorable. You can custom make your party invitations at websites such as, Lil Duck Duck. Remember to use cute "train wording" such as, "All Aboard for a Birthday Adventure" or create a ticket-shaped invitation which reads, "Ticket for One on Eric's Birthday Express."

The Location

There are a few locations that are ideal for a train party. You can contact a local train museum and ask if they have party packages. Many old train depots will have party packages, some of which rents out actual train cars as a "party room." The guests will be able to tour old trains and maybe even take a ride.

Another option would be a park, or even your own home, and complete the party with the rental of a trackless train. Local trackless train rentals can be found online at websites such as TrainParty.com. Guests will be able to take a ride on a mini train, which can be driven on cement, asphalt, grass or pavement, according to Train Party.

If renting a trackless train is out of the budget, consider hosting the party at a mall or somewhere that offers trackless train rides. You could pay for each guest to take one ride, which is usually around two to three dollars for each ride.

Decorations and Party Favors

Decorate the location of the party with train related decor. You can find train-themed decorations on websites such as Party City. If you want to use a train related character, there are plenty, which include Thomas the Train, The Little Engine that Could or just a classic steam engine. You can add inexpensive train conductor hats and train whistles to the tables for decorations and also send them home with the guests as party favours. Other party favour ideas include a bandanna or toy train.
