Today, face paint is popular among children and adults at parties and during holidays. Pirates fascinate both boys and girls. As a fun afternoon activity or as a theme for a party, paint your children's faces to look like pirates. Make sure to purchase face paint, as other paints are hard to wash off. Spread a thin layer of petroleum jelly onto the skin before you start painting.

Pirate Captain

Begin with a sponge and start dabbing brown or black paint in a beard pattern on the child's chin. Use a paintbrush to paint a tightly curled moustache on the upper lip and to darken the eyebrows. For some added decoration, paint little coloured circles over sections of the moustache for beading. You can also paint long black braids from the hairline down the sides of the face with painted beads on them. Top the costume off with a captain's hat and play sword.

Pirate Deck Hand

Paint on a coat of light brown to simulate a tan. Over one eye, paint a square with rounded corners. From the top two corners of the square, paint lines that disappear into the hairline. This simulates an eye patch. Make sure to paint the eyelid, but keep paint away from the lashes and tear duct. Stipple brown paint onto the child's chin and around his mouth to simulate stubble. Top the costume off with a bandanna.

Pirate Princess

Mix together flesh tone and light brown and use it as a base for a light tan. Draw thick black lines near the lash line on the child's upper lids, carrying the line to the corner of each eye and ending it in several curls like exaggerated eyelashes. Paint the rest of each lid in iridescent purple and strip it with metallic gold. Paint her eyebrows in black and paint her lips with sparkly red lipstick. To make her look like a tough pirate lady, draw a diagonal red line along one cheekbone. Make it jagged like a lightning bolt for a serious cut. Paint very thin, short black lines across the cut to simulate stitches. Top off the costume with a colourful bandanna and pirate hat, and your girl is ready to pillage.
