Developing the qualities of a good co-worker can help you manage your interoffice relationships and may also help you prove your competence and dedication to your boss or superiors. Being a good co-worker requires many of the same qualities that are necessary in other personal relationships, but it's also important to keep your behaviour professional and mature.


Loyalty is an important quality of a good co-worker. Someone with a vested interest in the company and a dedication to the people who are a part of it is valuable to the overall success of goals and interoffice relations. If a co-worker is simply biding his time until he can get his next job, his attitude will probably affect the morale of the entire office. It's important to show loyalty to the company, its mission and the people who are helping it grow.


A good co-worker must also be competent in his job skills. She must be good at what he does and able to take on projects independently and with others. As part of a team, each person must be able to carry her own weight, meet deadlines and go above and beyond for the sake of success. When one person is incompetent at her job, it can affect an entire project or cost the company money and resources.

Also, he should be mindful and respectful of personal boundaries when it comes to relationships with his boss or superiors. It is important for him to remain professional during working hours so as not to disrupt others or taint his reputation.
