Bose is a manufacturer known for quality sound systems and speakers. With the popularity of Apple's iPod MP3 players, including the iPod Touch, Bose has created compatible docking systems. The SoundDock system will work with your iPod Touch in a variety of settings, ranging from the kitchen to the living room or from your patio to the park, all while leaving your hands free.

Bose is a manufacturer of sounds systems, speakers, headphones and audio player accessories. The Bose SoundDock is a line of speaker systems that include a dock for your iPod Touch or other MP3 player. Thus, you can enjoy music from your personal audio player out loud, rather than through headphones or the internal speaker (included in the second through fourth generations of the iPod Touch). With the SoundDock and your iPod Touch, you can replace older stereo or audio systems and provide music to your visitors at parties, picnics and other gatherings. The Bose remote control allows you to control the unit from afar.

The Bose SoundDock is compatible with most versions of the iPod, including the iPod Touch, as well as Apple's iPhone. The dock is especially designed to hold iPods, including all generations of the iPod Touch. You can also use your iPod Classic, Mini or Nano; however, the Bose SoundDock is not compatible with the iPod Shuffle unless you use the USB connector. With the optional Bluetooth dock, you can also pair it with any audio player or phone that is Bluetooth-enabled, instead of using the dock connection to play your music out loud. If you have an older MP3 player or device, such as a CD player, you can purchase a 3.5mm mini-adaptor cable to use the Bose SoundDock with that device.

The SoundDock uses Bose's proprietary technology for a high quality and powerful sound, despite the relative smallness of the product's design. All SoundDock systems are capable of charging your iPod while it is docked and in use. Because it is compatible with more devices than just the iPod Touch, you can use it with your phone or CD player without needing to purchase a separate system for those devices. The remote control can pause, play and seek/scan music and adjust volume of your iPod, as well as control the SoundDock itself. You can even download Bose's radio application on your iPod Touch to listen to radio on the dock when your iPod is connected.

Bose currently sells three types of SoundDock systems. The SoundDock Portable System includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that you can charge prior to usage, so that it is not tethered to the nearest outlet. This, in combination with the small size and carry handle, makes it ideal for indoor or outdoor usage. The SoundDock Series II is the most affordable of the line at a price of £194, as of the time of publication. However, is does not include video output or a rechargeable battery. The SoundDock 10 is Bose's top-of-the-line model for use with iPods.
