Celebrating Halloween doesn't have to cost a lot of money. Oftentimes, you can find ways to spend less and enjoy yourself even more. To make your own costume, try looking around the house for everyday materials to spend less money. That way, you can come up with a creative look and have more money to spend on candy for the trick-or-treaters.

Mummy

Start by putting on some black clothing. Wrap white gauze around your entire body, sticking it onto the black clothing using double-sided tape. Once you have the gauze covering your whole body, add little touches of green and purple acrylic paint to areas of the gauze to make it look like the body beneath has decayed. Add some black face paint around any portions of the face still showing, such as around the eyes and nose.

Gift

Gather up a large cardboard box. Cut out one entire side of the box so you can fit your body through it. Cut holes for where the arms will be on either side, as well as a hole for your head to fit through. Wrap the remaining sides of the box with wrapping paper. Add a gift tag to the box. Wrap a ribbon around your head and attach a bow to the top of it. Put the box on so it rests on your shoulders with your head peeking out.

Bunch of Grapes

Put on some green or purple sweat clothes. Blow up several green or purple balloons so that they're about the size of a human head. Once you have enough balloons, safety pin them to the front and back of your shirt, making sure to pin the knotted areas of the balloons to the fabric. Cut out a stem shape out of green felt and glue this onto a green headband so you can wear it on your head.

Gold Digger

Gather up any gold clothing and accessories around the house. If you don't have gold clothing, spray paint any old dress or outfit gold. Find a plastic shovel and spray paint this gold also. Put on all your gold clothing and accessories and use gold-coloured hairspray and body paint to turn gold completely. Walk around throughout the night carrying your gold shovel. People should instantly recognise you as a "gold digger."
