The simple Philips Cineos SoundBar HTS8100 home theatre system is comprised of two parts: the speaker main unit and a subwoofer. It comes with a remote control for easy sound adjustment, and features several terminals on the back panel for connection to various devices. During installation, you might have questions about how to make the system sound and look better.

When installing the Philips HTS8100, select a flat location that's close to your seated ear level. Face the speakers toward the viewing or listening space, such as facing the couch and chairs, and place the subwoofer against the wall toward a corner of the room away from the TV. Access the speaker set-up screen to select "Room Placement" and specify the location of the speaker system in the room to better the sound of the system. Select from "Middle of Room," "Corner of Room," "Wall on the Right" or "Wall on the Left." The main unit can be mounted on the wall for a cleaner look. If you choose to mount it on the wall below the TV, leave four inches of space between the TV and the main unit's mounting gear.

Connect the Philips HTS8100 to the TV via a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) cable. This connection allows for solid image transmission, as opposed to audio and video cable connections, which sometimes compromise the quality of the image. An HDMI cable not only ensures high-definition transmission, but requires only one connection between the speaker unit and the TV, as opposed to three audio and video connection cables.

The Philips HTS8100 supports both external AM and FM antenna connections. After the antennas are wired to the unit, move each antenna around the room with the radio turned on to determine where the best reception is. Once the ideal spot has been found, mount the antenna and adjust it to its optimum receiving position. To acquire the clearest radio transmission possible, keep each antenna away from powerful electronic equipment, such as a microwave or the TV.

When connecting the power cables, insert them into the "Cable Out" slots of the Philips HTS8100 components along with the wiring of each unit. Try to plug all the power cords from the Philips HTS8100 into the same outlet, then roll up the excess and tuck it away into a hidden location. This will make the wiring of the unit look cleaner and more organised instead of cluttered and messy. In order to avoid harm, unplug each component from the outlet before making adjustments to the wiring of the unit.
