"The Wizard of Oz" is a story and film that has been beloved by many generations, and you can make craft projects to give as gifts to fans of the film for the holidays. There are a variety of craft mediums and techniques to choose from, including clay, sewing, woodworking and découpage, to create home decor and holiday projects.

Wicked Witch of the East Legs

Mold a small pair of legs out of clay to display on a shelf as a decoration, and paint the stripes and ruby slippers. Sprinkle red glitter over the shoes while the paint is still wet. Alternatively, sew a pair of stuffed legs and place them against the edge of your home, a garage door or under any door in your house for Halloween. Use a doll sewing pattern to create the legs using black and white striped fabric. Stuff the legs and add an old pair of heeled shoes, painted red and sprayed with red glitter, to the feet.

Create signs with famous sayings from the "The Wizard of Oz" to display in your home. Make signs using unfinished wood plaques in a variety of sizes. Carve, wood-burn or paint the sayings on the wood. Paint the signs in solid colours or stain the wood. Add sayings to the signs such as "There's No Place like Home," or "We're Off to See the Wizard!" Alternatively, make spooky signs for the Halloween holiday with the sayings "I'd Turn Back If I Were You," or "Haunted Forest, Witch's Castle, 1 Mile."

Découpage Home Decor

Use royalty-free images featuring scenes from "The Wizard of Oz," downloaded from the Internet or from CD clip art books, and découpage the images onto various decor items. Paint or stain unfinished wood boxes, frames or furniture and découpage images onto the wood. Alternatively, purchase a clock-making kit and découpage an image as the background. Use one image, or create a collage by overlapping a group of images. Découpage several wood plates with different "Wizard of Oz" images and hang them as wall decorations.

Sewing Crafts

Use embroidery and cross-stitching kits to make pillows from the home. Complete the stitchery and then back it with a coordinating fabric to make a pillow. Make "Wizard of Oz" dolls of Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion using a sewing pattern. Alternatively, make doll clothes costumes for a Barbie or American Girl doll of Dorothy or the Wicked Witch of the West. Make a Halloween pillow by cutting felt pieces to create the shape of the Wicked Witch of the East legs, then applique the pieces onto a pillow.
