Use potato flour to bake muffins and cookies or add it to sauces, gravies and soups to create a thicker consistency. Potato flour is made from dried, ground potatoes, making this flour a good alternative for people with wheat allergies. You can even use potato flour to make light, fluffy pancakes and other favoured breakfast dishes.

Baked Goods

Use potato flour to bake bread, cakes, cookies or any other types of baked goods. This flour can create a fluffy piece of bread, but these foods might have a slight potato taste, so follow the recipe and add other ingredients. Sugar, eggs and other additions combined create the right flavours for baked foods. As with any recipe, flour usually isn't the only ingredient.

Thickening Agent

Potato flour works well as a thickening agent for just about type of food. Add 1/2 cup of potato flour to a pot full of chicken noodle soup or gravy and mix well. The amount you add directly affects the texture, so add more if needed. This flour adds more bulk to both dinner and dessert sauces, along with any other type of liquid.

Breakfast Foods

Use potato flour to make pancake or waffle mix for your morning meal. Simply add 2/3 cup of sifted potato flour with 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 2 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp melted butter, 1 1/4 cups of milk and 1 egg. Mix well and use this to make pancakes or waffles. You can also add blueberries or raspberries to enhance the flavour.

Fried Foods

Use potato flour to make fried foods. Slather chicken breasts with olive oil and roll these in a bowl full of potato flour before frying on a skillet with garlic and other additions. Create a sweet treat by using potato flour, bananas and a few other ingredients. Combine potato flour in a bowl with sugar, cinnamon and other flavours of your choice. Roll the bananas in the flour mixture before frying them on the stove. This creates a crispy outer texture while keeping the banana gooey in the centre. Experiment by frying other foods with potato flour instead of traditional wheat flours.
