Beer kegs are a staple at a backyard barbecue or house party, but their weight (up to 77.1 Kilogram for a full keg) can make storing multiple kegs difficult. Using a beer keg pallet is invaluable for those who wish to store multiple kegs. These pallets are designed to provide stability so that the kegs won't roll and to conveniently store kegs in or on a movable unit.

Vertical

Vertical keg pallets hold beer kegs standing upright, the same way you would place a keg if you were placing it at a party. These pallets most often are made of wood or plastic. These pallets generally are built to hold four to six kegs at a time. The pallets also must be moved using equipment such as a forklift because of the amount of weight involved.

Horizontal

Horizontal pallets also generally are made of wood or plastic, but they store the kegs in a different way. Kegs are stored on this type of pallet lying down, much the way you would see a wine barrel stored. This type of pallet has special grooves built into it where a keg nestles so it will not roll. These pallets also can be stacked to save room within a storage facility or freight truck.

Wood

Wooden pallets are strong, but they have drawbacks. Moisture weakens and breaks down the wood. Mold also can grown on them, which not only breaks down the wood but presents a health hazard to pallet handlers. Splintering is another problem that can harm pallet handlers. Despite these drawbacks, wooden pallets remain popular because when properly maintained they can last for several years. They also come in vertical and horizontal styles for keg storage.

Plastic

Plastic beer keg pallets are growing in popularity because the material can be recycled. Beer companies such as Heineken transform old plastics into pallets. The plastic also won't splinter and is resistant to rain and mould. Plastic pallets also come in horizontal and vertical styles for keg storage. Plastic keg pallets are more environmentally friendly because they don't consume natural resources such as wood and last longer because of the material's durability.
