70s

To look like a 70s rock star, dig up some classic disco duds. Put on a pair of glittery bell bottoms or disco trousers and platform heels. Wear big and colourful accessories, such as sunglasses, scarves and gold chain jewellery. For a more feminine and flirty look, wear a glitter and bright-coloured floral mini dress and tall go-go boots. The 70s was the period for glam rock, so make sure your make-up is glittery and glossy and your hair big and wild -- think of David Bowie as your muse. Carry a guitar.

80s

The 80s was a time of many fashion faux pas, but salute your favourite rock idols with some daring costume ideas. Wear animal print leggings and jelly shoes. You can also layer on a ballerina tutu or a mini skirt. On top, wear a tight sparkly top, preferably a bright neon colour. Accessorise with Madonna-inspired fingerless lace gloves, bright red lipstick, large hoop earrings and bright plastic jewellery. Crimp your hair and tie it with a big bow or scrunchie. Carry a microphone.

90s

The 90s is fondly remembered as the grunge period. To achieve the grunge rock star look, layer a flannel shirt over a plain white T-shirt. You can also wear a black leather jacket over an 80s metal band shirt. Wear loose jeans covered in holes or a short skirt over black fishnet stalkings. For shoes, wear a pair of combat boots or an old pair of black Converse. Hair should be messy and unkempt, and accessories should be minimal, often no more than a hat. Bleach your hair blond, in the style of Courtney Love.

2000s

The 2000s can be perhaps be best defined by outrageous fashions in the style of Lady Gaga. Copy her iconic look by wearing colourful leotards, high heels, sunglasses and a platinum blond wig. Wear very heavy black eye make-up, false eyelashes and bright red lipstick. Use a make-up pencil to draw in a beauty mark on your cheek. Wear a crazy looking headpiece, such as a stuffed animal, a telephone or deer antlers. Don't forget to have your entourage and sparkly cellphone with you at all times.
